Cruising the Rhine
Last month I mentioned that I'd be (river) cruising the Rhine and it was so FUN! If you've ever wanted to experience multiple countries in Europe but don't want to have to pack and unpack all the time as you move around, a river cruise is an excellent option for you! Here's some of my favorite things about river cruising:
4-star (or higher) accommodations throughout. I loved not having to pack and unpack but also having it feel like a fancy hotel with turndown service each night (and a little chocolate on my pillow!). I got to Europe 1 night before embarkation so for a 9 day trip, and I only packed and unpacked twice!
Meals and excursions included. My planned for spending money was much less than when I've gone to Europe previously, as my excursions and meals were included in my cruise fare. I had one lunch in town, but the rest were high quality, locally inspired cuisine onboard (and let me tell you, the dinners were way more gourmet than I normally eat! Yum!).
Variety of excursions offered. I was pleased to be able to do a few biking excursions. They weren't too hard, especially if you have biked a bit on your own at home. They tour guides also made sure everyone was able to navigate the bike lanes and crosswalks safely, so there was no nerves from anyone even when we biked through the city centers!
Less people, more interaction. Unlike big ocean liners, a European river cruise typically only has about 100-150 guests onboard. This made it pretty easy to make friends! I made friends with a couple from the San Francisco area as well as two ladies from Australia. There's also a good crew to guest ratio, so the crew members knew me and my preferences quite quickly.
