What I am Working On: Greece & Italy - September 16, 2026

A once-in-a-lifetime family journey through the history of Greece and Italy!

Greece & Italy - 14 Days

This month, I’m working on a once-in-a-lifetime trip for a family of six who are ready to bring the history their children have been studying to life! Their kids attend a classical education school, and rather than joining a large group tour, the family wanted to create their own journey through Greece and Italy—one where they can take their time, see the places that matter most to them, and enjoy the experience together. From ancient ruins and legendary battlefields to Renaissance cities and winding Venetian canals, this trip is shaping up to be one for the books!

Itinerary

Day 1 - Athens

After arriving in Athens, the family will settle into their accommodations and take some time to get their first taste of Greece. A relaxed evening exploring the neighborhood and enjoying a local dinner is the perfect way to kick off their adventure.

Day 2 - Acropolis & Acropolis Museum

Today, they'll step into the world of ancient Athens with a visit to the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum. From the Parthenon to the Temple of Athena Nike, they'll see some of the landmarks they've learned about come to life right in front of them.

Day 3 - Corinth, Mycenae & Nafplio

They'll head out of Athens to explore the Corinth Canal and the ancient ruins of Mycenae, including the famous Lion Gate and the Treasury of Atreus. The day wraps up with time to wander through Nafplio, a charming coastal town with plenty of history of its own.

Day 4 - Delphi & Thermopylae

Today’s private tour takes them to Delphi, once home to the famous Oracle, where they'll explore the ancient site and its archaeological treasures. They'll also visit Thermopylae, bringing them face-to-face with one of the most legendary battle sites in Greek history.

Day 5 - Greece to Italy

Time to say goodbye to Greece and head to Italy! After flying to the Naples area and picking up a rental car, they'll settle into their next home base and get ready to explore another chapter of ancient history.

Day 6 - Herculaneum

Today, they'll explore Herculaneum, the ancient Roman town buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Its remarkably preserved streets and buildings offer a fascinating look at what everyday life was like nearly 2,000 years ago.

Day 7 - Amalfi Coast

A full day to explore the Amalfi Coast at their own pace! With a car and plenty of flexibility, they can enjoy the coastal views, stop in a few towns along the way, and see where the day takes them.

Day 8 - Rome

They'll trade the coast for the Eternal City today and travel by rail to Rome. After settling in, they'll have some time to get acquainted with the city and soak up the energy of one of the world's most historic places.

Day 9 - Ancient Rome

Today, they'll walk through some of ancient Rome's most famous sites on a tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. It's a big day for the history lovers in the family and a chance to see where so much of Roman history unfolded.

Day 10 - Vatican City

The family will spend today exploring the Vatican Museums and taking in centuries of art and history. With everyone having different interests, they'll have the flexibility to focus on what catches their attention along the way.

Day 11 - Florence

Today they head north to Florence, where a new chapter of history awaits. After checking in, they can spend the afternoon wandering the city's streets, enjoying a gelato, and getting their first look at its famous Renaissance architecture.

Day 12 - Florence & Brunelleschi's Dome

Today, they'll visit Florence's iconic Duomo and climb Brunelleschi's famous dome for views over the city. It's a chance to experience one of the great achievements of the Renaissance up close—and get in a few steps while they're at it!

Day 13 - Venice

Next up, Venice! They'll travel by rail to their final Italian destination and settle in before enjoying their first evening in this one-of-a-kind city.

Day 14 - Explore Venice

Their final full day is open for exploring Venice at their own pace. They can visit St. Mark's, wander through the maze of canals and narrow streets, and of course, enjoy a gondola ride before wrapping up this unforgettable family adventure.
