Amazon Rainforest & Sacred Valley - Peru - July 2, 2025
Did you know that I can plan last minute trips? In this case, the client reached out to me just under two months from when they would travel. If you've put off planning a trip and now feel overwhelmed, let me take the burden and create an amazing experience!
Peru - 8 Days
This well-traveled family had plans to head to Peru, but wanted assistance with the planning as one of the members wasn't sure they could manage the elevation in Cusco. They wanted an expert to assist and be on call while they traveled, just in case.
They are splitting their time between the Amazon rainforest and the Sacred Valley, and it looks like it will be an AMAZING trip!
Itinerary
Day 1 - Depart Lima for Iquitos
After flying into Lima the night before, they head off early this morning for Iquitos, the doorway to the Amazon. From here they'll head to their Amazon lodge via boat with a stop at Monkey Island to enjoy many different endangered monkey species of the Amazon.
Day 2 - Amazon Birdwatching & Learning
Today they will start their day with birdwatching (which is a treat because the birds of the Amazon are so beautiful), before heading off to a riverside village to learn from the indigenous people. The afternoon includes a fishing excursion, and if they're feeling up to it, they can do a night walk in the evening!
Day 3 - Amazon Cultural Immersion
The name of the game today is immersion: they will start with a boat ride to see the famous Victoria Lily, but their afternoon will be focused on immersive activities at a local family farm where they will learn how Trapiche (a sugar cane alcohol) is made.
Day 4 - Leaving the Amazon
All good things must come to an end, but before they completely leave the Amazon, they'll get to do a rafting tour of the Amazon River. After that, they head back to Iquitos to sleep and ready themselves for their return to Lima.
Day 5 - Lima
Today they head back to Lima for an overnight before they switch gears to the elevation of the Sacred Valley. They will have time this afternoon to explore the city a bit, but their flight leaves early tomorrow, so best to get some shut eye early tonight.
Day 6 - Sacred Valley
They didn't want to stay in Cusco due the very high altitude, so instead they are staying in lovely Ollantaytambo (which is 2,000 feet lower). They'll be close to some spectacular Inca ruins and the town has a lovely market that they can visit!
Day 7 - Machu Picchu
The pièce de résistance of the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu is definitely a bucket list item. They'll be heading over today to marvel at the site and explore, taking in the view that so many hope to see at some point in their lifetimes.
Day 8 - Ollantaytambo Ruins
On their final full day, they'll enjoy exploring the Ollantaytambo ruins, full of significant Inca sites such as the huge Sun Temple and the Princess Baths fountain. At the end of the day, they'll head back to Lima to prepare for their flight home tomorrow.
